Here's a recap on what went down during my first real week as a Spaniard.
The first word I learned was migraine. It's jaqueca. I had to look it up after I got one on my first day of class in order to tell Mama why I wasn't going to Latin America culture and civilization. Then, I went to it on Thursday, only to get another migraine during it and then had to miss Picasso. So great, I've already missed two classes the first week. Fortunately, the professors are really laid back here and didn't care at all since we're still in the add-drop period and people are changing classes. I did decide, though, that I am donating myself to science in order to help find a cure for migraines. So if you know anybody looking for subjects for a migraine study, I'm offering myself up.
I think I'm going to like all of my classes. There's only one professor I can't understand really well. Jesus. And he teaches two of my classes which is a little unfortunate, but I'll just have to pay really close attention. All of them are just like one group project, a paper, a midterm, and a final, so they won't be bad at all. I decided not to do an internship while I'm here, though, since I'll be taking 15 credits even though everyone else is taking 12.
Last night, we went to botellon and the University of Valencia. Since it was Thursday, the students hadn't gone home for the weekend yet and it was just a parking lot full of college students, drinking and listening to loud music out of people's cars. It was like the scene from every high school movie ever made, but I loved it. Except it was a little cold, but still a million times better than it probably is in Charlottesville.
Right now Amaya and I are babysitting our parents' grandkids. I guess that would make them our sobrinos. Carlos and Anna are the cutest things ever. They've been playing wii for hours and just decided they wanted something to drink so they paused it and then went into the kitchen together to get some Sunny D and cups. When they came back into the room with the kitchen table, Carlos told Anna to sit down while he poured her juice for her. It was the cutest thing ever. It makes me wish Paul and I got along like them. They do argue a little bit, though, but they're still adorable.
I'm not sure what we're doing tonight, but I know we'll probably be going out. I'm going to have to do homework at some point, but I'm not really that worried about it. I hardly have anything to do here which I'm not used to at all. Fine by me.
